Dr Chetan Mehta, MBBS, MD, MRCPCH

Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist, Birmingham Children’s Hospital

& Sessional Lecturer, University of Worcester 


Dr Mehta is heavily involved in diagnosing and treating heart problems present in babies at birth. His special interests are Paediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiac Interventions.


After qualifying from Medical College in 1992 he went on to do a Postgraduate qualification in Paediatrics at Mumbai University in 1996. 


Dr Mehta has a strong background in Paediatrics having worked in the PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit) at St Mary’s Hospital, London and NICU (Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit) at St. Michael’s Hospital in Bristol. After completing his training in Cardiology at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, he started working as a Consultant Cardiologist from 2008 initially in the Northwest, at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital with Interventional work at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and returned to BCH Cardiac unit in 2010. He has developed the Cardiac Advanced Nurse Practitioner program at BCH and has also standardised the pre-admission and day case cardiac catheters at the Hospital.


Dr Mehta is the Lead Interventional Cardiologist at BCH whilst also supporting the Adult Congenital Interventional Programme at University Hospital Birmingham. He represents BCH at various National and International meetings as a faculty and provides mentorship to Trainees and Junior Consultants in the UK and abroad. Dr Mehta is a believer in teamwork and along with his colleagues has had many publications published and he has also led charity camps abroad for Paediatric Cardiac surgery and Interventions.
